Pastas, pizzas, curries, a delicious bowl of ramen, in this article you can find all kinds of amazing restaurants in Rotterdam that offer delicious and affordable dishes. Of course everything is relative, that’s why we also share some prices.

1. Soi3

Soi3 is a great Thai restaurant on the West-Kruiskade. The restaurant has a modern, colourful interior and there is always a pleasant atmosphere. In the summer you can also sit outside at one of the pink folding tables.

On the menu of Soi3 you will find a wide selection of tasty, affordable dishes. These are served in plastic plates and bowls.

Don’t know what to choose? Then order a Thai classic, with a main course such as the delicious Keang kieuw waan (Thai green curry) for €17 or the Phad Thai for €19.

2. Zainab Roshni Mahal

On Nieuwe Binnenweg you will find Zainab Roshni Mahal, an Indian/Pakistani restaurant. As soon as you step inside, you imagine yourself in another country. The interior has lots of quirky details, from the special wall with built-in “candles” to the colourful lamps and the bright green tablecloth around the buffet table.

At Zainab you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat open buffet for €27,50 per person. Prefer to order from the menu? That is also possible.

The extensive menu contains all authentic Pakistani and Indian dishes. You can get a lentil soup for €4,75, paneer for €13,50 and the vegetable curry mix for €11,50. Order delicious naan for €3 and you have a delicious meal!

Good to know: children aged 4 to 9 eat for half price and up to 3 eat free here!

3. Stalles

A lovely spot on Nieuwe Binnenweg to enjoy good beers and tasty pizzas. You can get a margherita pizza here for just €9. The pizzas range in price from €9 to €16. Even better, on Mondays and Tuesdays you get a discount and can order one of the classic pizzas from just €7,50.

4. Bar Picar

In a great central location you’ll find Bar Picar, a cosy restaurant with reasonable prices. The menu mainly features tapas dishes made for sharing. Perfect if you want to try a bit of everything together.
Think patatas bravas for €6,50, sea bass for €13, roasted cabbage for €8,50 and a pizzetta starting at €11,50. They also serve great cocktails. A limoncello spritz, for example, is €8,00.

5. What’s Up India

At What’s Up India you can fully enjoy fresh Indian dishes in their quirky, somewhat kitschy interior.

There is something for everyone on their extensive menu! Order the delicious samosas in advance from €6,50. You can get a delicious (vegetarian) main course here for around €16 such as the Channa Masala, Dal Fry or Dal Tadka. Add €4,25 for a simple naan and €3,75 for Basmati rice.

6. XI’AN DELICIOUS FOODS

Another affordable option is Xi’an Delicious Food on Karel Doormanstraat.

Xian is a city in northwestern China. Xi’an Delicious Foods restaurant is named after this city. Here they serve authentic dishes from Xian, such as noodle soup, dumplings, Chinese crepes and rice dishes.

The open kitchen gives you a glimpse into the process of freshly prepared noodles (thin, thick and triangle noodles). You really come here for the food and the price! The interior is simple, with different dishes depicted on the wall.

You can get a large bowl of vegetarian noodle soup for €10 a large bowl of noodle soup with chicken for €12,50. They also have dim sum, six pieces from €5, and Chinese crepes from €6 (and they are really big!).

7. Yellow River Lanzhou handpulled Noodles

In the middle of Rotterdam Centre, on the Mauritsweg, you will find Yellow River. Here they make authentic Lanzhou hand-pulled noodles. It is possible to choose from six different types of noodles (thin, regular, thick, wide, wider and diamond).

When you enter you can place your order at the counter. Just like at Xi’an Delicious Foods, you can look into the kitchen at Yellow River and see how the noodles are hand-pulled.

After placing your order you will receive a beeper that goes off when your order is ready. You can then pick up the dish yourself and take it to your table. Good to know is that you can also serve all kinds of side dishes! These are also available at the order desk/kitchen.

It’s a restaurant where you really come for the food. The food is of high quality, but the restaurant is not necessarily intended for long dining. You can get a bowl of noodles for around €20. There are vegetarian and halal options.

8. Sabor Sabor

Through the dishes of Sabor Sabor you travel to different areas in Mexico. Each dish comes from a different part of the country. Everything is very colourful and full of flavour. You can also share many of the dishes together, which is always fun and a great way to get a taste of everything.

During my visit I (together with my boyfriend) tasted a lot, including the Guacamole sol y luna (€14,90), Frijol soup (black bean soup for €10,90) and Calabacitas enchiladas (vegan enchiladas for €20,50).

Every week Sabor Sabor puts together a new three- and four-course surprise menu from the chef. That’s a fun and affordable way to taste everything! The three-course menu costs €35 per person and the four-course menu €45. You can choose from chicken, meat, fish, vegetarian or vegan.

9. Supermercado

At Supermercado you eat delicious and affordable! They have delicious tacos, salads, grilled meat and much more.

We recommend  the tacos fot €4,75 each, ceviche starts at €11,50 and of course you have to go for the nachos (€14,50). Or treat yourself to five tasty empanadas for just €9,50.

Supermercado is the perfect place to share dishes with a group of friends, but it is also a super fun date spot. They also serve excellent exotic cocktails!

10. Spaghetteria

Spaghetteria is a cosy, accessible Italian restaurant. They have two locations in Rotterdam: one on the Nieuwe Binnenweg and one on the Pannekoekstraat. There are no tables for two at Spaghetteria, but long tables where everyone can sit. So there is always a spot!

The daily changing menu features six different pasta dishes, made with fresh ingredients. Three of the six dishes vary daily: the vegetarian ravioli, the fish pasta and the papperdelle with meat ragout.

The three regular dishes are the arrabbiata, the Tuscan sausage and the frutti di mare (if in season, otherwise they are replaced by mussels). The prices of the dishes vary between €14,50 and €21,50.

Spaghetteria make their own pasta in their own laboratorio artigianale, a traditional workshop where they make different types of pasta according to the tradition of the Italian pasta guild.

11. PizzaBar di Vicini

Have you already heard of Pizzabar Di Vicina in Kralingen? With their delicious oven-fresh pizzas and great atmosphere, it’s a pizza party every day!

Pizza chef Ayad Ezzarouali is in the kitchen every day, serving up thin, crispy, fluffy, gluten free or vegetarian and vegan tray-baked pizzas. Their menu changes daily and features Italian bites, aperitivi and freshly baked pizzas. Everything is made with pure, high-quality ingredients.

12. Panzerò Italian Streat Food

Crazy about Italian cuisine, but want something different than pasta or pizza? Then Panzerò on the Botersloot is the right place for you.

This is not your typical pizza or pasta night. At Panzero you can enjoy the Apulian kitchen, with traditional dishes from Puglia in Italy.

The highlight is the panzerotto, a deep fried calzone filled with fresh Italian ingredients. Try the classic panzerotto with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and chilli from Puglia for €5,50 (small), or go for the Panzerotto Speciale for €15,50 (large portion).

13. Deli Tasty

For about €13-20 per person you can enjoy Vietnamese food at Deli Tasty. The prices of the starters are between €5,50 and €10. You have a noodle soup from €13, which is a whole meal in itself.

The restaurant has a nice interior that really reminds us of Vietnam.

14. Pho Saigon Vietnamese noodlebar

Buns, rice dishes, spring rolls, rice paper rolls and of course the famous pho noodle soup. At restaurant Pho you eat delicious dishes according to Vietnamese cuisine for an affordable price.

For example, the Banh Xeo Chay (Vietnamese pancakes) costs €17,30, and the Banh Thit Ga (two steamed bun sandwiches) is €10,50. Add a drink and you’re all set for under €20.

15. MÉMÉ VIETNAMESE STREETFOOD

Crazy about Vietnamese street food? Then you want to go to MéMé. This restaurant specializes in healthy and authentic Vietnamese food.

You can get spring rolls from €3,50, bapao from €7.00 and fresh summer rolls from €7,50. For mains, try the delicious vegan coconut curry with potatoes, mushrooms and mixed vegetables (€15,50), or rice with chicken in homemade peanut sauce for €15,75.

16. Nieuw Rotterdams Café

At Nieuw Rotterdams Café you can enjoy drinks, bar bites, lunch and dinner. In the evening they offer a shared dining concept, perfect for tasting a variety of smaller dishes together.
Think pimientos de padron for €7,50, two tuna pani puri for €8 and plates starting at €14,50,

With a menu full of fish, meat and vegetarian options, there’s something for everyone. And of course, there are great drinks to go with it.

17. Vessel11

Looking for something a bit different? Then we recommend a visit to Vessel11! The restaurant is actually a red lightship docked in the city centre of Rotterdam.

Their menu is inspired by British cuisine, with a seasonal and modern twist. The starters start from €8,80 and the main courses from €16,50.

Would you like to join us for the Sunday Roast? That will cost you €24,50 for slow roasted meat, vegetables, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.

18. SHIN

As with most restaurants, it’s just how much you crazy you make it yourself at SHIN. At this Japanese tapas bar and matcha café you can share Japanese dishes together!

The menu starts with a love letter from owner Nanako to her husband (and business partner) Tony. Then there are different “dates” possible, so menus for two people!

Ordering off the menu is of course also possible. Prices for the smaller dishes range from €4,75 (such as the pickled cucumber) to €7,50 (for the home made Chicken Wings). The Specials are a bit more expensive, ranging from €15,75 for the Tuna Carpaccio to €38 for the Grilled Wagyu Steak (80 grams).

It’s good to know that Wagyu Steak is normally a lot more expensive. The owners of SHIN import A5 wagyu from Kagoshima, Japan and then offer it at the purchase price in their restaurant. Owner Tony: “We have chosen not to make a profit on this dish, so that it is more accessible for our visitors to taste real Japanese wagyu. And also fall in love with it, like we did.”

19. Japanese Curry House Kiiro

Kiiro is the first Japanese curry house in the Netherlands. Here you can create your own curries and add as many vegetables as you want. The dishes are simple, but full of flavour.

For example, you already have Torpedo Gamba’s for €15,75 and for €13,50 vegan dumplings. Definitely recommended!

20. BISTROT-BAR FRÈRE

Bistrot-Bar Frère is a relatively new addition to Blijdorp. This French bistrot is, in their own words, “a place for everyone who has a taste for French food, groove, funk and hip-hop”. That sounds cool, doesn’t it? And it is also an affordable place!

Order something delicious from the drink menu and combine it with a delicious natural wine. In addition to being a wonderful place for a drink, you can also have an excellent dinner here. Choose a menu for Petite Faim (€16,00) or Grande Faim (€23,50), which stands for small hunger or big hunger.

21. De Pizzabakkers

Of course the name already says it, but at de Pizzabakkers you can order delicious pizza’s. The pizza’s here have an extra thin, crispy bottom and are topped with fresh ingredients.

You can get a pizza Margherita for €12,90. Is a Margherita too plain for you? The delicious and richly topped prosciutti royale pizza only costs you €18,90. Bon appetite!

22. De Smaak van Afrika

At De Smaak van Afrika or ‘the Taste of Africa’ you can go for the authentic African cuisine with main dishes starting from €18,50

Or choose the Nay tzom Heweswas, a festive platter with various traditional vegetarian dishes for two. This costs €46,00.

23. La Cazuela

La Cazuela is a lovely Mediterranean restaurant on the always pleasant Proveniersstraat in Rotterdam. For those who do not know this location: behind central station is a small intersection with a mix of nice restaurants.

La Cazuela’s tapas menu contains influences from Spain, Italy, France, Portugal and North Africa. The tapas dishes are between €6,50 and €16,00.

24. AJISAN Authentic Tokyo Ramen

Craving a tasty bowl of ramen? Then visit AJISAN on the Coolsingel. It’s an atmospheric restaurant with a great interior. The bar really looks like a ramen bar in Japan and the first thing you see when you walk in is the cool mural.

But what makes AJISAN really unique is that they don’t use any chemical additives in their dishes. The ramen of AJISAN are made as healthy as possible with only natural ingredients.

Fortunately, the dishes at AJISAN are also affordable. The price for a bowl of ramen starts from €14,95. In addition, you pay € 15,95 for a rice bowl and for side dishes, such as delicious gyoza, you pay around €5.

25. Takumi Düsseldorf

Another great place for a bowl of Japanese ramen: Takumi Düsseldorf on the West-Kruiskade. It is a small restaurant, filled with cute lamps and other decorations, giving it a great vibe.

But let’s talk about the food! Takumi’s menu is extensive, with more than 15 types of ramen. You can already order a bowl of ramen from €15,50 and a curry from €15,50.

26. Soif

At Soif in Delfshaven you sit right at the water. Especially in the summer it’s nice to sit on their terrace. In the winter you can sit inside and warm yourself up with their cheese fondue .

It’s a cafe where they serve delicious soups, salads, cheese fondue, risotto and much more. They also have delicious desserts such as the cheesecake, apple pie and nut cake from Koekela.

The prices for the starters are between €9,50 and €14,50 and the prices for the main courses are between €18,75 and €26,50. Would you like a dessert? Then you will spend between €4,50 and €17,50 per person, or you can share one!

27. Restaurant Bazar

Bazar at the Witte de Withstraat is a well-known in Rotterdam and is an excellent choice if you have to keep a tight budget.

Starters cost you about €7 and a main course between €14 – €26. Most dishes come from the Middle East and North Africa.

At Bazar you can eat well and affordable in Rotterdam, but you can also decide to eat a delicious and affordable breakfast here.

28. SUGO

SUGO is located at multiple locations in the Netherlands, namely in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Utrecht and of course in Rotterdam!

At SUGO you can go for pizza al taglio. This is a pizza variant that is baked on large rectangular plates and cut into long pieces. Pizza al taglio therefore means “sliced pizza”.

29. Hamburg

At Hamburg they serve proper burgers made from fresh ingredients and “honest” meat. This means no hormones and antibiotics. In addition, you can also choose to swap your burger with the vegan ‘Beyond Meat’ burger.
With your drink and delicious fries, you have a full belly for around €20!

30. BIRD

Fun parties and good food: we love BIRD. Here they serve plenty of dishes in addition to their delicious wood-fired pizzas.

What we recommend is to let yourself be surprised by the Chef’s Table on a Tuesday, also known as Tasting Tuesday. On this day you pay just €35 instead of €39,50 and enjoy a surprise five course menu.

Or visit BIRD on a Wednesday and enjoy pizza and a beer (or soft drink) for €17,50. Make sure to book in advance for these offers, mentioning ‘Tasting Tuesday’ or ‘Pizza Wednesday’.

31. Rozey

Rozey is one of our favourite affordable restaurants with a top price-quality ratio. With their delicious unlimited vegetarian and vegan dishes, you can even have the biggest meat eaters enjoy themselves.

It’s an all-you-can-eat concept where you pay €37,50 (€42,50 during the weekend). And that includes drinks! Pretty good deal right?! Try the vegetarian burgers and fries, beet carpaccio, seaweed bitterballs, pulled jack fruit or Kentucky fried cauliflower.

32. The Harvest

Do you want a nice warm home-made meal, without having to cook it yourself? Then definitely visit The Harvest, one of our favourite healthy hotspots in Rotterdam. Here they use local and seasonal products with which they put together a delicious plate of food.

It works as follows: first you choose the basis of the dish, then two dishes from the greengrocer and finally you can choose a vegetarian dish or a piece of meat. There are also ready-made bowls to choose from. Depending on your choice, you pay between €19 and €22. And believe us: you’ll feel SO full afterwards.

33. De Kleine Ondeugd

This Thai restaurant has been hiding in Kralingen for years. At De Kleine Ondeugd you can choose a two-course menu for €33,50, a three-course menu for €38,50 or a four-course menu for €45,00.

The dishes are varied and always a surprise. Expect spicy snacks, Thai soup, Thai desserts and other specialties. A cosy restaurant, ideal for lovers of Thai cuisine! You eat what they serve, but they love to adjust a few ingredients to make it vegetarian.

TIP: Try the butterfly pea tea, if they have it on offer during your visit. This healthy tea changes from blue to purple when you squeeze lemon juice into it!

34. Le Souq Delfshaven

At the Lebanese restaurant Le Souq in Delfshaven you can enjoy fresh, tasty dishes from the Middle East.

Be sure to order a selection of delicious mezzes. These are small oriental dishes, kind of like starters, that are ideal for sharing. The mezze’s go per two people and for example ten types of mezze you pay €23,95 per person and for 15 types €34,95 per person. It is also possible to choose it per piece. You can also go for a three-course menu for €36,95 per person.

For example, choose from various cold mezzes such as tabouleh (Lebanese salad with parsley, tomato and wheat grains) for €6,75 or Baba Ghannoush (grilled eggplant dip with tahina, garlic and lemon) for €5,50. For the warm mezze you can choose from various dishes as well, such as falafel (€5,95) or batata harra (spicy potato cubes with coriander, garlic and lemon) for €5,50. Super tasty!

35. Restaurant Meram

Meram is located at Afrikaanderplein in Rotterdam South. This is a Turkish restaurant where you can order all kinds of dishes for breakfast, brunch and dinner. Of course at an affordable price!

The menu offers a lot of choice. A classic favourite is the Turkish lentil soup (€6,00). Warm Turkish tapas start at €7,90.

36. Little V

Do you love Vietnamese food? Then we recommend Little V. This hugely popular establishment in the heart of the city centre is not only very tasty, it is also fantastically decorated. The plants, lights and wooden gazebos make the restaurant very atmospheric and give the feeling of being in Vietnam.

The menu features a variety of classic Vietnamese dishes. Choose from one pot meals like Bún (from €21), or go for fish, meat and vegetable dishes to share, such as vegetarian coconut curry with vegetables (€14,50), prawns and scallops in coconut curry (€21) and grilled chicken thigh with lemongrass (€14).
Or let the chef surprise you with a two, three or four course set menu, priced between €35 and €40.

37. De Maaskantine

De Maaskantine is a fun colourful restaurant with a terrace on the water where you can order tasty BBQ dishes and refreshing drinks during the warmer season.

The menu features several items from the Pak-pak Gouw takeover (between €13 – €27), cauliflower tempura (€9,00), and various bites and snacks.

Of course you can also just stop by for a drink at De Maaskantine. They offer a range of cocktails and mixed drinks. Their tip is to go for a pitcher, so you save money.

Note: Maaskantine is closed during the autumn and winter months, but it’s a fantastic spot to visit in the summer!

38. Waroeng EmJay

Hidden just behind West-Kruiskade, you’ll find Waroeng Emjay, an Indonesian eatery where you can dine in or order takeaway.

The menu features rames dishes starting at €18,50, as well as specials such as bami goreng ayam and nasi ayam for around €15. The portions are very generous, and most dishes come with vegetables and crackers.
