Are you also crazy about Japanese food? Sushi, ramen, authentic Japanese dishes, you name it. I absolutely love it. You can eat the best Japanese delicacies at these 15 Japanese restaurants in Rotterdam. Enjoy your meal!
1. Japanese Cuisine Yama
This stylish restaurant is a true experience. At Japanese Cuisine Yama, the food is prepared with the quality and technique of traditional Japanese cuisine. The interior is also amazing, you want to be here!
I’m not a quick person to act decadent, but if it’s possible: why not? The dishes and sushi are works of art on beautiful plates. It costs quite a bit – a tasting menu is €185 including dessert, excluding drinks – but you really get something extraordinary.
Eendrachtsweg 31A, 3012 LC Rotterdam
2. MISO SUSHI PLAZA
MISO SUSHI in Central Plaza opposite Central Station is a nice, hip and cosy sushi restaurant. It’s always full (that is, when I eat there or walk by) and the sushi always tastes good.
This restaurant is definitely recommended for a date, a snack with friends or a meal with the family.

3. AH-UN Japanse BBQ & Sushi Restaurant
At AH-UN they know what quality is. Here they serve Japanese Yakiniku, or grilled meat. You can also eat tasty sushi here and drink high-quality sake.
For people who love Wagyu, this is the perfect restaurant, because AH-UN serves the best Wagyu in Japan and Europe.

4. AJISAN Authentic Tokyo Ramen
If there’s one thing I love, it’s ramen. I have tasted a lot of ramen in my life and I can honestly say that AJISAN is not inferior to my personal favourite Takumi.
This cute restaurant in a small square building on the Coolsingel serves healthy and 100% natural ramen based on a recipe from a chef who is Japanese ramen champion.

5. wagamama Rotterdam
Wagamama restaurant is always a good option. Affordable, tasty and recognizable. The same in every city, so to speak, also in Rotterdam.
Ours is located on the Witte de Withstraat, the liveliest street in the city. You first eat a coconut-based curry or a shrimp teppanyaki, after which you roll on to a café for a drink.
Witte de Withstraat 83-85, 3012 BN Rotterdam
ITAMI is a sushi and teppanyaki restaurant with a touch of glamour. The interior is a mix of wood, velvet, marble and abstract prints. If you are going to eat here, put on your nicest suit.
At ITAMI you enjoy signature dishes such as the Wagyu Usuyaki ribeye roll or the Kamo Foie Gras, but the menu is endless, so plenty of choice.
Prinsendam 182, 3072 MA Rotterdam
7. SHIN Japanese Tapasbar & Matcha Café
The hip SHIN is brightly coloured – mainly red, which is inspired by the shu-iro temple – and serves dishes that can be posted on Instagram. Eating here was an experience, I thought I was in Japan for a while.
Especially the drinks are very special. From cocktails like the Geisha star martini to matcha desserts like the SHIN Matcha Parfait and the Kawaii Sakura Parfait. Definitely recommended to see and taste this for yourself.

8. Set Noodle Rotterdam
Ramen fanatics like me know Set Noodle on the West-Kruiskade all too well. If you also love spicy food – just like me – then this is the place for you.
Try the challenge and order one of the vulcano dishes. It’s going to be tough, I can promise you this.
West-Kruiskade 10B, 3014 AP Rotterdam
9. Japanese Curry House Kiiro
Nice and fast, nice and easy, but above all tasty. At Japanese Curry House Kiiro you eat exactly what the name of the restaurant gives away: curry. Katsu curry to be exact. This restaurant does not disappoint, you can eat a large plate with rice, curry and (vegan) chicken for next to nothing.
Kiiro has three locations in Rotterdam: the Wijnhaven, Markthal and Foodhallen!

10. Kyoto Sushi & Grill Rotterdam
Something to celebrate? Looking for a fun outing with the family? Kyoto Sushi & Grill is a restaurant that is great for large groups. Enough space, because this restaurant is big.
I have been here several times myself, because of a birthday, during Christmas or because there is simply nowhere else to book a table for 25 people. Great place for a tasty Japanese bite.
Straatweg 107, 3054 AC Rotterdam
11. Ono Rotterdam
Ono Rotterdam is fusion dining. This restaurant on the Kop van Zuid brings worlds together. Japanese cuisine meets European influences in the most beautiful way possible. Not only the taste but also the design of the dishes is a unique experience.

12. Takumi Tonkotsu Ramen Rotterdam
In my opinion the best ramen: Takumi. And no, not only in Rotterdam. It’s the best ramen I’ve ever eaten. Takumi is originally from Düsseldorf, but found his way to the Netherlands a long time ago. It is extremely popular and for good reason, the food is great. There is always a long queue at every location, in every city, in every country.
There are several locations of Takumi in Rotterdam, each with their own specialties. The newest location can be found on the William Boothlaan. Here they serve Tonkotsu broth ramen. This ramen broth is made with pork bones and is prepared by boiling the pork bones in water for quite some time.
William Boothlaan 7A, 3012 VG Rotterdam
At iYUMi they create fusion dishes. This Asian kitchen serves, among other things, Japanese sushi. From gunkan, nigiri and temaki to inside out rolls, sashimi and iYUMi specials. You can also order poke bowls, soups and salads and bento boxes.
Coolsingel 143, 3012 AG Rotterdam
14. Restaurant Three
Restaurant Three owes its name to the concept: the kitchen prepares three types of food. Namely Asian dishes, Japanese sushi and Japanese robatayaki (aka BBQ).
Especially the robata (short for robatayaki) is interesting. It is a form of grilling in which products are prepared on charcoal at a low temperature. The number three (in Japan ‘san’) is also a lucky number.
Freericksplaats 24, 3054 GN Rotterdam
15. Sumo Markthal
Who doesn’t know sumo? This famous sushi restaurant is always packed. The menu is extensive and the dishes always taste good. This location in the Markthal is suitable for couples, friends, large groups and families. There is a table for every group.
