1. Japanese Cuisine Yama
This stylish restaurant is a true experience. At Japanese Cuisine Yama, the food is prepared with the quality and technique of traditional Japanese cuisine. The interior is also amazing, you want to be here!
I’m not a quick person to act decadent, but if it’s possible: why not? The dishes and sushi are works of art on beautiful plates. It costs quite a bit – a tasting menu is €185 including dessert, excluding drinks – but you really get something extraordinary.

Eendrachtsweg 31A, 3012 LC Rotterdam

If there’s one thing I love, it’s ramen. I have tasted a lot of ramen in my life and I can honestly say that AJISAN is not inferior to my personal favourite Takumi.
This cute restaurant in a small square building on the Coolsingel serves healthy and 100% natural ramen based on a recipe from a chef who is Japanese ramen champion.

5. wagamama Rotterdam
Wagamama restaurant is always a good option. Affordable, tasty and recognizable. The same in every city, so to speak, also in Rotterdam.
Ours is located on the Witte de Withstraat, the liveliest street in the city. You first eat a coconut-based curry or a shrimp teppanyaki, after which you roll on to a café for a drink.

6. ITAMI
ITAMI is a sushi and teppanyaki restaurant with a touch of glamour. The interior is a mix of wood, velvet, marble and abstract prints. If you are going to eat here, put on your nicest suit.
At ITAMI you enjoy signature dishes such as the Wagyu Usuyaki ribeye roll or the Kamo Foie Gras, but the menu is endless, so plenty of choice.

7. SHIN Japanese Tapasbar & Matcha Café
The hip SHIN is brightly coloured – mainly red, which is inspired by the shu-iro temple – and serves dishes that can be posted on Instagram. Eating here was an experience, I thought I was in Japan for a while.
Especially the drinks are very special. From cocktails like the Geisha star martini to matcha desserts like the SHIN Matcha Parfait and the Kawaii Sakura Parfait. Definitely recommended to see and taste this for yourself.

9. Japanese Curry House Kiiro
Nice and fast, nice and easy, but above all tasty. At Japanese Curry House Kiiro you eat exactly what the name of the restaurant gives away: curry. Katsu curry to be exact. This restaurant does not disappoint, you can eat a large plate with rice, curry and (vegan) chicken for next to nothing.

Something to celebrate? Looking for a fun outing with the family? Kyoto Sushi & Grill is a restaurant that is great for large groups. Enough space, because this restaurant is big.

12. Takumi Tonkotsu Ramen Rotterdam
In my opinion the best ramen: Takumi. And no, not only in Rotterdam. It’s the best ramen I’ve ever eaten. Takumi is originally from Düsseldorf, but found his way to the Netherlands a long time ago. It is extremely popular and for good reason, the food is great. There is always a long queue at every location, in every city, in every country.
There are several locations of Takumi in Rotterdam, each with their own specialties. The newest location can be found on the William Boothlaan. Here they serve Tonkotsu broth ramen. This ramen broth is made with pork bones and is prepared by boiling the pork bones in water for quite some time.

13. iYUMi
At iYUMi they create fusion dishes. This Asian kitchen serves, among other things, Japanese sushi. From gunkan, nigiri and temaki to inside out rolls, sashimi and iYUMi specials. You can also order poke bowls, soups and salads and bento boxes.

14. Restaurant Three
Restaurant Three owes its name to the concept: the kitchen prepares three types of food. Namely Asian dishes, Japanese sushi and Japanese robatayaki (aka BBQ).
Especially the robata (short for robatayaki) is interesting. It is a form of grilling in which products are prepared on charcoal at a low temperature. The number three (in Japan ‘san’) is also a lucky number.
