Visit the greenest Christmas market in Rotterdam!

The greenest Christmas market in the city will take place from 9 to 11 December on the edge of the centre of Rotterdam. The winter greenery in the botanical gardens of Trompenburg Tuinen & Arboretum forms the backdrop for an intimate Christmas market, where sustainability and responsible shopping at local entrepreneurs are central.

There is plenty to do for visitors. For example, score your gifts at LUSH, Bloemoloog, Olala Chocola and Lowlander. Enjoy delicious food and drinks and follow all kinds of fun workshops. It’s going to be a festive weekend!

 

Christmas market in a magical decor

The Trompenburg Botanical Gardens turn into a magical place during the intimate Christmas market. This green oasis is then beautifully lit and is all about responsible shopping and workshops.

It will be a feast for young and old. At the entrance is a covered winter square, where fresh Christmas greenery is sold: from special varieties of holly, conifers and pines to spruce from Trompenburg’s own garden. The greenery immediately get a second life on the Christmas table of Rotterdammers.

Along the stall route, visitors can shop at mostly local entrepreneurs who are passionate about sustainable products.

You can relax and enjoy the Christmas vibes on the terraces at the food trucks and Theehuis ‘De Uithoek’. To keep you in the mood, winter food is served: think delicious pea soup, chocolate milk and mulled wine are on the menu. A unique and green winter wonderland is emerging on the edge of the centre of Rotterdam.

 

The special Christmas greenery at Trompenburg

The fresh Christmas greenery at the Christmas market is special. Visitors here buy prunings that come directly from the botanical garden, including from the national holly collection.

At the Christmas market, Denise Collignon shares her knowledge about making a sustainable and contemporary Christmas piece. She is an experienced flower stylist and likes to show others how you can get started with a second-hand vase or bowl and, for example, eco-friendly floral foam.

 

 

Circular workshop: make a modern Christmas wreath

The workshop that will take place on Sunday 10 December is completely circular. Participants will put together a modern Christmas wreath with evergreen prunings, dried flowers and eco-friendly materials.

The workshop lasts two hours and is given by Fien from Kore Rotterdam. She works with nature-friendly flowers and plants and shows how easy it is to make a modern Christmas wreath from leftover materials. With some playful branches and dried flowers here and there.

The workshop will take place on Sunday 10 December at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and costs €47.50 (including all the necessary materials and fresh Christmas greenery).

 

Winter walks at Trompenburg

What could be nicer on a winter day than to breathe fresh air in the middle of the city, surrounded by greenery? During the winter walks in Trompenburg Tuinen & Arboretum you will learn more about what grows and blooms in December. Because nature never stands still.

An expert takes participants on a tour through the garden on Sunday 4 December (holly is the central theme) and Wednesday 28 December (tree bark is the theme).

The theme walks cost € 4,50 per person.

 

Practical information about the Christmas market at Trompenburg

When: Friday 9 december from 12:00 to 20:00 o’clock and Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 December from 10:00 to 17:00 o’clock.

Entrance fee: € 10,75 per person. (free with the Museumkaart, Rotterdampas, Jaarwandelkaart or Vriendenkaart).
