The Rooftop
We start with a special terrace, namely a roof terrace! At The Rooftop, on the roof of the Groot Handelsgebouw, you can play games, enjoy drinks and snacks and sit comfortably in the sun on the terrace with a view of the centre of Rotterdam.
The restaurant and bar, run by Spinning Group with Smoke Masters as chef, offers a full menu and bar with many options.
The menu includes accessible dishes, such as smash burgers and loaded fries, healthy salads and lunch options. Everything is made in an open kitchen and at two food stations. For example, there will be a food station where you feel like a child in a candy store, with all kinds of different snacks and delicacies.

2. Calaboose
In this beautifully secluded garden, where the sun shines through the trees, you can enjoy the true works of art that they call cocktails. In addition to the nice tropical names and looks, the cocktails taste surprisingly good.
Next to the Tiki Passion or the 5 Island Cendol (as shown), you will find various Indonesian bites, such as of course their famous saté. Whether you live in Kralingen or not, it is certainly worth a visit on a summer day!

On the outskirts of the city you will find a beautiful city farm. A creative, utopian free state: Weelde.

4. Vessel11
Looking for something a bit different? Then we recommend a visit to Vessel11! The restaurant is actually a red lightship docked in the city centre of Rotterdam.
On their deck they have a great terrace, where you can sit on a sunny day in Rotterdam whilst enjoying a drink and delicious food. But they also have tables on shore next to the boat where you can take a seat and enjoy the sun.
Their menu offers typical British pub food, with a seasonal and modern twist. In addition, V11 often organizes live music events, with fun (upcoming) bands and musicians.

5. Amore
A nice place to enjoy the sunny days is Amore. This is a cool resto bar where you share dishes with your friends and order the tastiest drinks from their extensive drink menu.
Amore has a spacious terrace, so there is often enough space for you and your friends. In addition, you are also comfortable inside on warm days, because the sides of the building are open.
Take a seat here and order something from the menu together, such as olives, sourdough bread with salted lemon butter or artichoke hearts with burrata and pumpkin seeds. Drink it away with natural wine, Japanese sake or a special cocktail from Amore’s small cocktail menu. Life is good!

6. De Maaskantine

A nice terrace on the water with a beach? Then you have to be at De Maaskantine! Here you can enjoy tasty BBQ dishes and refreshing drinks.
At this unique Rotterdam hotspot you have a beautiful view over the Rotterdam Maas and skyline, while enjoying BBQ dishes inspired by the American East Coast. Here you lie on colourful beach beds on the beach, relax with your feet in the sand and have a refreshing cocktail in your hand.
The atmosphere of the Maaskantine is partly due to artist Jelmer Konjo, who gave the outdoor restaurant a cheerful summer look with a bright colour combination.
This year they have a new kitchen team, led by chef Mike Everling (By Jarmusch) and Rohini Atwaroe (former sous chef Ter Marsch & Co) who provide dishes such as spicy loaded fries, fried fish with jalapeno mayo or a smashed (vegetarian) burger.

7. Far Out Drinks Co. Pop-up bar
Are you crazy about natural wine? Then visit this summery pop-up wine bar at Oase Rotterdam. While enjoying special Portuguese wines you look out over the Maas and Rotterdam ports.
In addition to the organic and biodynamic natural wines, they serve botanical soft drinks, wild beers, Rotterdam ciders, specialty coffee from A.M.O.C. and a Portuguese Pastel de Nata.
Hungry? There is also a small snack menu and a BBQ area, so you can just bring your own food! Joey van Far Out: “Together with Oase, we are trying to create a special, yet accessible place. Everyone should feel welcome here, including people with a smaller wallet who might prefer to bring their own food.”
It is possible to visit them until the end of September. So all summer long! You will find the pop-up bar at Oase Rotterdam, directly on the quay of the Schiehaven.

8. Parkcafé Parqiet
Do you want to get away from the hustle and bustle in the city? Then Parqiet in the Park is the ideal hotspot. Here you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and drinks. Parqiet is located in the former carriage house and together with Dudok in the Park, is one of the few spots in the Park to enjoy a drink and food.

Fancy a tasty breakfast, brunch or lunch? Then Arzu is a great option.
Arzu’s menu features all kinds of delicious pancakes, but they also have sandwiches and bowls.

12. Harvest Café & Bakery
Delicious coffee, super tasty food and great service! This is exactly what you can expect at Harvest Coffee Brewers. This cozy hotspot is located in the Glashaven; a super nice location. They don’t have a large terrace, so it is difficult to get a spot, but this makes their small terrace with a view of the small harbor very unique.
The owners of Harvest Coffee Brewers have worked in the hospitality scene in Melbourne, Australia and this is reflected in the menu and the whole atmosphere of this hotspot.
It’s a fun place to have breakfast, brunch or lunch, with delicious dishes such as the classic Eggs Benedict.

13. Breakfast in Rotterdam HQ
Breakfast in Rotterdam HQ is a popular breakfast place in Blijdorp. It’s located in Spullen voor in je Huis (translation: Stuff for in your Home), a second-hand store full of furniture, plants and other items.
You can simply make a reservation at Breakfast in Rotterdam HQ at the outdoor bar, where you can also directly place your order. Then you can take a seat on their cozy terrace!
The menu offers a lot of delicious breakfast dishes, such as breakfast bowls, various sandwiches and wraps. A favourite is the classic (but with a twist) Avo Smash with avocado, chili flakes, lemon and pomegranate seeds.

Besides the fact that Kula is a café where you can go all day, it is also a yoga studio and they give various workshops. Breakfast all day and every day! At Baker & Moore you can order all kinds of delicious breakfast dishes, from their Ultimate Toast Avocado to their Cocoloco Mango Chia Bowl and Sweet “Moore” Ning with a large croissant and mini scone.
Their sandwich specials are really worth a try too! Did you know that their Mr Baker Goes Asia sandwich has even won the title “The tastiest lunchroom sandwich in the Netherlands 2018”?

17. Teds All Day Brunch
Did you know that there is a city garden on top of the roof of the building next to Annabel and Biergarten? It is the first green rooftop in the Netherlands to grow fruit and vegetables.
Here you’ll find Teds All Day Brunch, the perfect spot for hungover Sunday brunch dates. But not only can you visit them on Sundays: Teds is open every day from morning to afternoon. And whether you order a fresh mint tea or Espresso Martini, it doesn’t matter. At Teds, you can get what you want, whenever you want!

Restaurant Matelief is located in the Oude Haven. With a sunny south-facing terrace, Matelief is a great place to be. Biergarten doesn’t need an introduction. It has become a true household name in the city and the place to be to enjoy a beer in the sun on a Friday or Saturday night. In addition to the range in beer, you can order a burger, fries, or other snacks such as nachos or a Biergarten ‘kapsalon’ here.

Sitting in nice lounge chairs, with some tropical tunes playing in the background, a drink in your hands and of course a Bird pizza in front of you, the Garden of Bird is a great place to spend a warm afternoon.

21. Dudok in het Park
Dudok in the Park is located in the middle of the Park. It’s located in the beautiful monumental building the Heerenhuys. This beautiful building comes with a great outdoor seating area!
It’s the ideal location to enjoy a sunny day in Rotterdam. Here you can order a nice cup of coffee, tea or a refreshing drink with something sweet (Dudok-apple pie, maybe?) or savory from the menu.
On sunny days, and once it’s possible again, Dudok in the Park extends the opening hours, so you can also have dinner outside.

22. Raïnaraï
Rainaraï can be found on the Middellandplein in Rotterdam-West. There are beautiful rugs and cushions on the sofas and because the terrace is surrounded by tropical trees, it feels a bit like you are in an oasis. It is a wonderful place to have a drink or have an extensive dinner.

If you’re looking for a nice place in the Maho Kwartier, Bokaal is the way to go. It has one of the larger terraces in Rotterdam, so it increases the chance of actually finding a spot.

The terrace of Hotel New York is a good choice during a sunny day in our city. It has a perfect location at the head of the Wilhelminapier overlooking the beautiful skyline of Rotterdam!

27. Belgisch Biercafé Boudewijn
On the Nieuwe Binnenweg you will find the Belgian Beer Café Boudewijn. Crazy about (special) beer? Then you should definitely choose this café. They have 24 types on tap and more than 200 beers in the bottle.
Of course you can also order something to eat, such as shrimp croquettes, mussels and beef stew. These are all typical Belgian dishes!
Behind the café of Boudewijn is also a nice garden where you can go for a lunch, dinner or refreshing beer.

The name actually says enough, but Prachtig (meaning beautiful) has a beautiful terrace directly on the banks of the Maas, right under the Erasmus Bridge. The terrace of Prachtig has 250 spots and is distributed over a lounge terrace, a drink terrace and a dinner terrace.
From here you have a view of the Willems Bridge, the Erasmus Bridge and Kop van Zuid. With it’s ideal location and iconic view, Prachtig is a great place to lounge, lunch or have dinner.

31. Viskantine aan de Cool
De Viskantine is De Machinist’s pop-up restaurant and you can usually go here from May to September.
The Viskantine is the ideal hotspot for fish lovers! Next to fresh fish dishes and tasty drinks, you can relax in a lounge chair or beanbag and watch the passing boats. Feet in the sand and the setting sun on your face, that’s the good life.

32. Bazar
De Witte de Withstraat is always a good idea! Here you will find plenty of hotspots with great outdoor seating, such as Ballroom, NRC Café, Supermercado, Witte Aap, Café De Zondebok & ‘t Zwarte Schaap, just to name a few! Bazar is also in this fine location in Rotterdam and we can’t imagine the street without it.
The terrace of Bazar is very spacious, so it’s a great option if you can’t find spot elsewhere. The tables and plates are very colorful, making every visit a bit like a little party. The menu – inspired on the Middle East and North Africa – is very extensive and you can go here for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just for a drink.

33. Fenix Food Factory
Fenix Food Factory is located in a harbor warehouse (Fenixloods 1) on Katendrecht; a unique part of Rotterdam. You can go here for fresh, local products.
Get a cocktail at the Soda Pop Shop, a (special) beer at the Kaapse Brouwers, a sandwich from Jordy or whatever you prefer and enjoy it on the terrace! It is an lovely location and always a good option if you fancy a day at the terrace.

Named after the beer that they brew in the basement themselves, the Gele Kanarie is a great place for a drink and bite with your friends.
With great weather, the terrace is packed on Friday’s and Saturday’s, as it’s the go to after work hang out for many people!

35. A la plancha
Great news. Pop-up restaurant A La Plancha opens their doors on the Noordereiland again from May to September. As a fan, we couldn’t be more excited about this.
What once started as a neighborhood initiative to put Noordereiland on the map has now grown into a true concept in Rotterdam. A La plancha is really a wonderful place to be during a sunny day. While you enjoy fresh fish dishes and a cold beer or a nice wine, you are also in a great location with a beautiful view over the Maas.
If you spend an afternoon or evening here, it feels like you are on vacation. Most of us can really use that!

36. Lantaren Venster
Would you like to go to the movies and have a drink on the terrace before or after? That’s what you do at Lantaren Venster!
Julia already tipped it off in her article about late summer in Rotterdam:
“So going to the movies is really one of my hobbies. I think it’s best to catch a movie on a Sunday afternoon where you can dream away.
To relax, it is always great to drink a cup of tea (or wine) after the movie. At Lantaren Venster you have the perfect place for that, that is the terrace. The terrace is a good place to enjoy the autumn sun after a movie (or just whenever you want). You have a wonderful view over the water at the Rijnhaven.”

37. Mecca
Mecca is such a very nice place in Rotterdam Noord. During sunny days you can enjoy the terrace, surrounded by cosy plants.
For example, order a delicious sesame iced latte, delicious when it is warm out. Mecca also serves special breakfast dishes inspired by the Middle East. For example, the changing menu currently includes a delicious dish with labneh (savoury yogurt dip) with egg. Highly recommended and a personal favourite!

38. Westerpaviljoen
The Westerpaviljoen is a lovely old school café with a living room vibe. But you can also sit outside with a pint in your hands.
The best part is that they have a windshield here on the side, which makes the autumn sun feel like 25 degrees. Also a tip to do some work inside at the reading table and then take a break on the terrace.

At Soif, a lovely and affordable restaurant in Delfshaven, you can sit right at the waterside. In the summer you can relax here on the spacious terrace!
It is an eatery where they serve delicious soups, salads, cheese fondue, risotto and much more. They also have delicious desserts such as the cheesecake, apple pie and nut cake from Koekela.

40. ‘t Ouwe Bruggetje
This restaurant with the beautiful green facade can be found in Historical Delfshaven. All that lush green definitely attracts the attention when you walk past them. Lucikly, Restaurant ‘t Ouwe Bruggetje & Wijnwinkel has a lovely terrace on the water, so you can have a seat.

41. De Tuin
Many people from Rotterdam go to the Kralingse Plas during the warmer days in our country. So it’s nice to know that you can sit somewhere outside and order a drink and some food. De Tuin (meaning The Garden) has a perfect location for a terrace, located on the edge of the Kralingse Bos and directly on the beautiful Kralingse Plas.
From this terrace you also have an amazing view of the Rotterdam skyline.
You can order a lot of tasty food at De Tuin and you can go here for lunch, brunch, dinner, high tea, barbecue and drinks.

This year pop-up restaurant De Maaltuin returns in a unique way to Trompenburg Tuinen and Arboretum Rotterdam. Visitors can wander through this beautiful garden to take place on different spots and enjoy the view, a culinary dish and the stories of Maaike, who grew up in the gardens as a child.

Do you already know Café Clementine? You can visit this restaurant in Barendrecht. So outside Rotterdam. But believe me, it’s worth the detour!
In the glass greenhouse of Café Clementine you can enjoy an all-day menu with beautifully prepared dishes to share. You can already see how green it is above! And of course you can sit on their terrace when the weather is good.
So come by for a delicious lunch, dinner and drink. The dishes are made with local, sustainable products. Many even come from their own garden, such as the edible flowers and herbs.

45. Fontein Rooftop
Fountain is, as you might guess, named after the Hofplein fountain that can be found right in front of this beautiful place. Travel to the tenth floor for a special roof terrace. From the Fountain Rooftop you have a beautiful 360-degree view of Rotterdam. It is even possible to see The Hague from here!
Unfortunately (for us), Fontein has shifted their focus completely on private events and parties since April 2023. This means that it is no longer possible to join them for dinner. But if you are looking for a special place for your wedding reception, for example, then this is the perfect spot!
