Motel One, the successful budget design hotel group from Munich, recently opened its doors in the heart of Rotterdam. The new hotel can be found on the Hoogstraat, between the Markthal and Laurenskerk.
Characteristic of the hotel are the vibrant, colourful details that can be found in the wall design. But also the design furniture and decoration, inspired by the unique architecture of the Rotterdam Markthal.

Inspiration from the Markthal
In the bustling shopping centre of Rotterdam you can escape the everyday hustle and bustle of the city in the Motel One hotel. When you walk into the hotel from the pedestrian area, the hotel’s colourful, vibrant interior immediately embraces you.
Motel One was inspired for the theme of the hotel by one of the biggest attractions of Rotterdam: the Markthal. This is immediately reflected in the lobby. The large cabinet, made of steel cables and filled with plants, immediately catches your eye. The design of this cabinet refers to the architectural details of the facade of the Markthal. By using coloured surfaces on the wall, the well-known market stalls of the Markthal, among other things, have been incorporated into the hotel in an abstract way.

Surrounded by design
The hotel reception, characterized by terrazo counters with coloured speckles, is on the right-hand side upon entering. Here too, the walls are painted with the iconic coloured surfaces, decorated with colourful, hand-blown glass lamps from the British brand Curiousa.
A little further on, guests can immerse themselves in the design lounge on the ground floor, where three large Zettel’z lamps, specially designed by Ingo Maurer, steal the show. At the long work table, guests can even enjoy Motel One’s beautiful interior while working, with furniture from Moroso and Pulpo.

Enjoying the view from Cloud One bar
An absolute eye-catcher of the Rotterdam design hotel is the Cloud One bar. As a guest you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city from the fifth floor. Start your day with a delicious organic breakfast, and while enjoying a Gin-Tonic you can end the day on the roof terrace of the Cloud One bar.
With the well-known Eden carpet by Moooi, the Egg Chair by Fritz Hansen in a unique floral print and the Skygarden lamp by Flos, the special features of the Markthal are once again brought back into the interior of the hotel.
Attached to the lamps above the bar table you will find labels of different types of gin, including the most important information about different types of gin. With ceiling-high windows, the bar has a unique view of the city from three sides. The perfect place to enjoy a drink!
