It is not the first city where this remarkable hotel concept settles, because after a successful opening in our capital, Hotel Not Hotel now also opens its doors in Rotterdam! From November 15, this is the ideal place to stay during your weekend in Rotterdam.
Why is this hotel so different? Various (local) artists have set to work here to make it an experience: it feels like an artistic village, with squares, houses and hidden front doors.

A hotel with a twist
The hotel is located at Schaatsbaan 83, just around the corner from Rotterdam Central. One of the most ideal places to have a hotel room. After your train ride, you can enter your room and walk to the heart of the city within minutes.
The hotel contains 36 rooms, something you wouldn’t think when you step inside. The rooms are so hidden that it seems that there are only a few rooms. Some doors have been transformed into bookcases or mirrors! Each room is in a different area, located on the two courtyards. For instance, you have a Hansel and Gretel house, a mirror house, a castle, an Italian house and more.
The artists
Nothing is too crazy when it comes to designing this hotel. That is the assignment that the artists received when they were asked to design the hotel. Arno Coenen, Hans van Bentem, Sander Wassink and Jelle Mastenbroek got to work and gave their creativity free rein. It is therefore not surprising that it feels like you are in a museum.
Arno Coenen explains “I designed the cuckoo clock myself, which functions as the facade of a number of rooms. But a Candy House and vertical swimming pool also adorn the courtyards. The number of different designs should make the guests go on a journey of discovery through the hotel.”
Mexican streetfood at Jesús Malverde
Of course, the hotel cannot exist without a matching restaurant. And not just any restaurant: a Mexican restaurant slash cocktail bar. No fewer than 85 guests can enjoy dinner and cocktails here until the late hours. Mexican street food is leading here, such as delicious fresh tacos.
But it’s not just the tacos that are impressive, the interior also fits right in with the rest of the hotel: arty and daring. Bright red walls, benches, tables and… what not? A real eye-catcher with only custom made furniture.
But make no mistake, the restaurant is certainly not just for hotel guests. The focus is on the people of Rotterdam, who, together with the hotel guests, offer a nice mix for a pleasant evening in the centre.
