By Lisanne van Beurden
September 21, 2023

What fun things can we do in Rotterdam this weekend? Let’s make the most of late summer in Rotterdam and go out! Below I recommend fun events, cool new places and fun activities.

There are also free and affordable options, so an empty bank account is no excuse to sit at home and do nothing.

Festival DOWNTOWN

When: Friday 22 and Saturday 23 September

WORM Rotterdam

Festival Downtown is back on September 22 and 23. You can experience electronic music at eight different locations, including WORM, Skatepark Blaak, Eendrachtsplein, Museumpark, Nieuwe Instituut and V11. BIRD hosts an internship at Skatepark Westblaak with artists from different genres and countries.

The Festival Downtown line-up includes Ivy Lab, DEFORMER, Ray Fuego, Bragz, JuJu Moura, Onipa and many more!

The festival is free during the day, but you do need to buy a ticket for the night. Visit their website for tickets and the full line-up.

Groen (Green) Festival

When: Saturday September 23

On Saturday, September 23 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Schouwburgplein and in the hall of Theater Rotterdam, you can participate in fun activities, art routes, lectures and green workshops during the Green Festival. There is also a large market where you can shop sustainable products from various entrepreneurs.

The festival is open to everyone. As a wheelchair user, founder Claudia Rosbergen noticed that many green activities are inaccessible. That is why she started the residents’ initiative Green Day a few years ago, which over the years grew into the Green Festival.

Interpreters are present at all Green Festival activities and the location is wheelchair accessible. In addition, you pay what you can afford, so that the festival remains financially accessible to everyone.

National Moulade at Eurobrouwers

When: Saturday September 23

On Saturday September 23, during the Schiedam roasters’ festivals, Eurobrouwers will host the very first National Moulade edition. This mussel festival, originally from Northern France, offers an introduction to traditional festivities, enriched with a contemporary Dutch twist.

During this event you will sit at long tables together with your friends, enjoy live music and of course taste the mussels made over an open fire. After dinner it’s time for a dance on the dance floor. There is also a kids table especially for the little ones. Fries, (vegetarian) sausages and ice cream are served here for 11 euros.

Not crazy about mussels? There is also a vegetarian menu available and even a BBQ menu for meat lovers. Dessert and snacks are included in the price, but drinks are at your own expense.

Discover new hotspots in Rotterdam

New hotspots open so often that it’s hard to keep up. Do you happen to have time this weekend to discover some of them? Then we have a few tips!

Rejoes

Do you love vintage shops? Good news! Rejoes recently opened, a store of 600 square metres of curated second-hand clothing. Through their DIY approach and industrial and warm design, they create an authentic style and atmosphere in the store.

The store is located at Oude Binnenweg 34 in Rotterdam Centre and has opened there door at the beginning of this month.

Basecamp

Are you familiar with Pleur in Rotterdam Noord? Owners Florian and Nadia have opted for a complete rebranding, with the new name Basecamp!

The name refers to the fact that their store is a home base for the two owners. A place where they can share all their stories from their many travels. Basecamp is a sustainable concept store and coffee bar, where you can buy local products and gifts and sit down for a cup of coffee and something tasty.

Machi Machi

machi machi is a world famous Taiwanese bubble tea brand known for their high quality bubble tea and their special panna cotta boba.

Their menu includes fresh tea, milk tea, lattes, fruit drinks and drinks with cream cheese foam. Also nice: it is possible to indicate how sweet you want it, with Extra Sugar, Regular Sugar, Lite Sugar or No Sugar.

Other fun activities in Rotterdam

Do you feel like doing something unique? Fortunately, there are a lot of great activities to experience in our city. Below you will find three options, which are also possible when it rains.

Cool off during the Splashtour

As a city with a large river, Rotterdam has plenty of fun water activities. The Splashtour is one of them and even though the name suggests otherwise, you will be completely dry during this ride!

This bus tour seems very ordinary, but nothing could be further from the truth. During the Splashtour, the bus literally takes a dip in the Maas. The bus continues and shows you the city from the water.

TIP: Get your ticket for the bus here!

The new Euroscoop

The Euroscoop of the Euromast has been renewed! As you are taken on this exciting ride, you will see the city and its surroundings from all sides. But that’s not all: the brand new, intelligent glass floor goes from matt to transparent. This makes the experience extra special.

We have already taken a ride with the new Euroscoop. Check out our TikTok to see what it was like!

TIP: Get your ticket for the Euromast. The ticket price is higher if you buy entrance tickets on the day of your visit. Don’t forget to click on the option of the Euroscoop tickets!

Eat pancakes on the pancake boat

If you are looking for the real Dutch experience with the family, you should go with the Pannenkoekenboot. In addition to tasting the typical Dutch pancakes, you can explore Rotterdam with a boat trip on the Maas.

A super fun activity for children, but secretly also great fun (and tasty of course) for adults.
