Olivia De Beukelaer has recently relocated from London to Rotterdam. Now she takes every opportunity to explore her new home. As a guestblogger at?Weekends?in Rotterdam she is mostly reviewing the city’s food and drink scene. Her new review is about The Barn in Rotterdam.?
*Unfortunately The Barn in Rotterdam has closed its doors permanently.
The 100% organic fast-food restaurant and takeaway chain has arrived in Rotterdam. The Barn serves up fast-food favourites made with fresh and nutritious ingredients at affordable prices. The eco-friendly concept continues with biodegradable packaging, sustainable food sources and fair-trade ingredients. Already established in Amsterdam and Utrecht, The Barn also has its eye on Eindhoven, Maastricht and more Dutch locations.
Just two weeks after it opened, we popped by for dinner.
Review of The Barn Rotterdam
The open kitchen framed by a red barn-style wall takes centre stage on the ground floor. But before you reach the kitchen counter, veer left to the digital kiosks. The automated ordering process with pin-only payment takes place on those four big touchscreens. Once you’ve made your selection, take a seat at a wooden table and wait for your order to be called out.
On the menu
Organic burgers are The Barn?s speciality. There’s a choice of six, including mushroom, cheese, vegetarian and double-portion burgers. Organic sandwiches, salads, soups, potato wedges and breakfast classics are also available. There?s nothing too exotic on the menu, the focus is instead on the quality and delivery: everything is freshly made to order. You can even see today?s fresh piece of beef hanging by the counter, ready to be sliced up for the next customer.
The burgers are juicy and flavoursome, with a little kick from the secret barn sauce. And they don?t leave you with that lingering greasy, junk food feeling you might get from cheaper fast-food chains.
Insider tip:?Burgers are cooked medium as standard. But if you ask at the counter, the staff will be happy to cook the meat rare or well done according to your taste.
Ditch your artificial fizzy drinks for natural lemonades, homemade juices, coffees from sustainable plantations and vegan smoothies.
Secure the cosy sofa-swings located upstairs for a meal with a little sway. But there?s only one set so you?ll have to be quick!
For who, for when
Head to The Barn for a quick and satisfying meal with friends in the city centre. It?s perfect for Lijnbaan-street shoppers, cinema-goers, and eco-warriors on a budget.

How great would it be if you don't have to work up a sweat in the kitchen all day long
