Strict measures or not, entrepreneurs provide a cosy Christmas vibe in our city anyway they can. There are several Christmas markets in Rotterdam that you don’t want to miss out on. A warm glass of mulled wine, doing Christmas shopping, enjoying beautiful mood lighting and of course being together.
Below I share four (Christmas) markets, a pleasant Christmas walk and a cool event to put in your planner. This is how we make it a cosy Christmas!

Rotterdam Christmas Trees
The Rotterdam Christmas trees (Rotterdamse Kerstbomen in Dutch) are back at a new location this year! The three Rotterdam friends Rozemarijn, Lotte and Mariel are organizing a super fun second edition of the Rotterdam Christmas tree market. Choose your Christmas tree in a cosy atmosphere, drink mulled wine and immediately buy a nice local gift for under the tree.
Last year there were no events and many shops remained closed. That is why the Rotterdam friends came up with a way to offer a small bright spot: Rotterdam Christmas Trees Drive Thru. It became a great success!
Christmas trees pop-up at the Maaskantine
This year the Rotterdam Christmas Trees pop-up will take place at the Maaskantine. Come by bike, car, shared scooter or water taxi to this beautiful place on the banks of the Maas and toast to your newly purchased beautiful tree.
Enjoy live music, drink mulled wine, do your Christmas shopping at one of the stalls of small, local entrepreneurs and score your most beautiful Nordmann Christmas tree. Will it be a mini Selma or a two meter high Henk? All trees have their own name tag, just like last year.
A place where you can buy your Christmas tree with music, mulled wine, stalls and a nice chat is just a little more fun than at the Praxis!

Weelde’s Winter Warenmarkt
Weelde’s team always comes up with a creative way to deal with the current situation and have now come up with something cool: a winter (Christmas) market on their site. Every Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 19 December you can visit Weelde’s Winter Warenmarkt (commodity market) full of unique products from creative start-ups and second-hand items.
Various creative Rotterdam entrepreneurs
Due to the new measures, Weelde was forced to cancel their 2021 organized program and instead organized a last-minute winter Christmas market. In this way they can also help Rotterdam entrepreneurs, who may also catch the blows of the lockdown.
During the winter market, Rotterdam entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to sell their products to a large audience. In addition, they want the market to be a place where there is still room for some solidarity and conviviality.
Visit Weelde’s Winter Warenmarkt for an original Christmas gift, new sneakers, a tattoo or simply to drink mulled wine. In total, about 70 exhibitors have registered for the weekends. Think of creative entrepreneurs in art, design, (vintage) clothing, interior and vinyl. There is also space for private individuals to sell their second-hand items.
A winter snack while shopping
A winter snack is available from Weelde’s chef Jona Haile and restaurant Kumzits provides suitable snacks, lemonades, cocktails and wines for the occasion. Finally, every weekend various Rotterdam DJs and residents play on the market.
Dates Christmas market: 4 & 5 December, 11 & 12 December, 18 & 19 December
Times: 12:00 – 17:00 o’clock
Entrance fee: €3,-
Address: Marconistraat 39, Rotterdam
Christmas Market Trompenburg Tuinen & Arboretum
The Rotterdam botanical garden in Kralingen is the setting for an atmospheric Christmas market this December. At the Christmas market, visitors can buy fresh Christmas greens straight from the garden. There is also a stall route where entrepreneurs from the region sell their products.
Magical Christmas market in a green oasis
On December 10, 11 and 12, the botanical garden of Trompenburg is the setting for a magical Christmas market. The green oasis is then beautifully lit and visitors can walk a stall route along products from regional entrepreneurs.
At the entrance is a covered winter square, where Christmas greenery from the garden is sold: from holly, conifers and pines to spruce. The stall route leads past stalls with gift items, such as rare tropical house plants, honey from the Trompenburg beekeeper and traditionally made scented candles. Ideal as Christmas presents for under the tree.
The various terraces in the garden are open all winter. There are also food trucks and the tea house ‘De Uithoek’ serves food and drinks in winter. The Glühwein and pea soup are of course ready for the visitors.
Discovering Winterwonderland and fun games
Throughout the Christmas holidays you can go explore with a guide. The guide takes you through the garden and tells you everything about the winter vegetation in the garden. Trompenburg will organize winter treasure hunts for the little ones and various workshops, including making Christmas pieces with botanical greenery.
On the winter square you can enjoy winter refreshments such as a hot chocolate with whipped cream or something stronger throughout the Christmas holidays. This way you will imagine yourself next month at Trompenburg in a winter wonderland, right in the centre of Rotterdam.
There are also winter games for the kids such as Christmas lawn bowling, catching Santa hats and a snowball game to ensure an entertaining afternoon. No Christmas card to send yet? During the Christmas market you can take a festive family snapshot in the Christmas photo booth.
Dates Christmas market: 10, 11 & 12 December
Times: 10:00 to 16:00 o’clock
Entrance fee: the normal entrance prices of Trompenburg also apply to this Christmas market.

Christmas package walk from Stadswandeling010
Not a Christmas market, but a Christmas walk! Also super cosy and fun.
Since Christmas drinks are canceled en masse and catering entrepreneurs miss contact with the guests, the team of Stadswandeling010 sat down with a group of entrepreneurs. Then they came up with the idea of the Kerstpakketwandeling010 (Christmas package walk010). A healthy and sporty alternative to digital Christmas drinks.
Route along catering and culinary specialty stores
If you register for the walk, you will receive a digital route with quiz questions and beautiful Rotterdam stories. During the Christmas walk you walk past four to five Rotterdam catering and culinary specialty stores. In every store you fill your Christmas package with local and regional products. Of course there is a snack and drink ready!
At the end of the route, a Christmas box is ready so that you can easily take all the local products home with you. A pleasant culinary outing for colleagues, friends and/or family!

Winter edition De Maaltuin
Something to put in your planner: from January 6, 2022, the winter edition of De Maaltuin will take place in Trompenburg. During this pop-up catering experience, the chefs cook with products from the garden and you will discover the stories of Trompenburg.
Pop-up catering experience De Maaltuin
The Maaltuin is organized in Trompenburg three times a year. Each edition is unique. What does not change is the concept: cooking is done with fresh products from the garden. The dishes have their own story and dinner is served in a special place in Trompenburg.
This winter edition, the menu is inspired by the Hoey Smith family, the founders of Trompenburg. There are musicians who tell the stories about Trompenburg through live music. During dinner, visitors learn more about the history of the garden and about everything that is hidden in the garden this winter in a playful way.
The Trompenburg garden will be beautifully illuminated during De Maaltuin in January by the light artists of Werc Collective. You can also admire the impressive night photography of Nocturnal Gardens.
Dates Maaltuin: 6 to 23 January
Costs: €84.95 for a 5 course dinner
Address: Honingerdijk 86, 3062 NX Rotterdam
